Extraordinary times, extraordinary people

In late December 2019, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission in China reported an outbreak of a pneumonia of unknown cause. Nine days later, officials pinpointed that cause: a novel coronavirus. Within days, MGH senior leadership and the Center for Disaster Medicine began to closely monitor the situation and mapped out plans for the virus’s possible spread across the globe. Staff throughout the hospital pivoted to face the threat. Frontline clinicians, including those in the Department of Medicine, coped with constant practice changes as knowledge about the virus grew.
