Ten black & white photos: Larger group photo of six men in top hats in the center surrounded by ten smaller individual portraits

Boston physicians, ca. 1860s

The physicians in the larger, center portrait (left to right), Drs. Henry J. Bigelow, Samuel Cabot, J. Mason Warren, Solomon D. Townsend, George H. Gay, and Henry G. Clark, were all members of the MGH surgical staff. The individual calling card portraits of other MGH physicians and Harvard Medical School professors are from an 1860s photographic album which belonged to William T.G. Morton, the dentist credited with the first successful public demonstration of ether anesthesia.
