Painting of gray-haired woman wearing an ivory-colored cowl-neck sweater

Portrait of Eleanor Mayher Hackett (1937-2009)

Hackett was a volunteer and member of MGH’s Ladies Visiting Committee (now LVC) for over 30 years. She started a writing seminar for residents and fellows in the Department of Psychiatry to help them publish their work, with her husband Thomas Hackett, MD, who was Chief of Psychiatry. She continued the seminar after his death. Hackett served on nearly every committee and in nearly every officer role of the LVC at some point during her service to the hospital, and performed a wide range of volunteer roles, from staffing the hospital’s General Store to escorting patients.
