Portrait of Frances J. Bonner, MD (1919-2000)

Bonner practiced in the MGH Psychiatry Department for 50 years. She devoted most of her career to serving patients and supervising residents in psychotherapy. She received the first Helen Putnam Fellowship for Advanced Research from Radcliffe College, and in 1975 co-founded the Psychoanalytic Institute of New England. Bonner was the first African American woman physician to train and become a faculty member at Massachusetts General Hospital.
