Cheever was an MGH Trustee who was a physician himself. Having graduated from Harvard Medical School, he spent his career in microbiology and epidemiology research, teaching and medical school administration, at HMS and elsewhere. On retiring, he served on the MGH Board of Trustees from 1975 to 1982, serving as Chairman from 1878 until 1982.
