One of the most extensive hospital updates was the conversion from kerosene and fuel lanterns to gas lighting. Many of the existing lights, like this first-floor lamp, were converted to gas rather than replaced. These lanterns would later undergo a similar upgrade when the hospital brought electricity into its buildings.
