Veranda for the pediatric wards, 1937

From 1903 to 1940, the center of the second and third floors of Bulfinch were pediatric wards. At the time, fresh air was considered essential to health, in addition to helping patients feel good. The hospital built this porch as part of building renovations in 1925 so that nurses could wheel children in their beds straight outside for air and sun.
